Ed McMillan, CPA, CAE 1948-2013
As Institute staff prepare to leave for West Institute, we recognize the presence of Ed McMillan will be greatly missed. Ed’s expansive knowledge of finance combined with his engaging and energetic teaching style endeared him to Institute attendees and made him a faculty legend. In the early 90’s, Insitute named Ed Faculty Chair for Finance. In 1997, Ed was the first ever recipient of the U.S. Chamber’s Excellence in Teaching Award.
Ed McMillan strengthened the chamber and association industry through passing on his passion for nonprofit management and finance to all those he taught at Institute and to all those who knew him.
As Institute Faculty Pat McGaughey, IOM, CPF said, “Ed was a Marine, he was an EMT, an author, an educator and simply a man that was a joy to be around. Ed was all in and went all out throughout his life. I’m so glad I knew him. He left us all so much better than he found us.”
Ed passed away in his home on July 1. Many thanks goes to Ed for the great legacy he left. Our hearts are with his family at this time.

Rest in peace, Ed. You will be missed. You wore many distinguished hats in your life and touched many lives. Above all, you were our friend.
