Stardate: 1207.3. It’s a tense situation. The Starship Enterprise is caught in a Romulan ambush and is about to be boarded. Capt. James T. Kirk goes into his cabin and calmly says, “Computer on”. Problem solved. Attack thwarted. Another episode of Star Trek ends and shows why the Federation rules the galaxy.
Fast forward today: You are at your desk. You need to complete a presentation for the board with two of your staff on an initiative you are proposing. It is a key highway expansion, critical to your community. You calmly ask your personal voice assistant for the diagram of the planned expansion which appears in VR allowing you and your team determine the impact of the traffic flow of your planned expansion on shortening the commute.
Welcome to the new world of ambient computing. Welcome to the new reality of the 21st century business environment– that is quickly adapting to Artificial Intelligence (AI) to solve problems, make an office more efficient and usher in the new era of your Association
Remaining relevant today is critical for all business. Maybe more so for associations. Technology offers alternative ways for members to find solutions to problems that were once your domain. Face the challenge head-on and embrace new technology to drive bigger and better initiatives and results:
Here are just some of the ways AI is already in the workplace:
Cisco’s Spark Assistant has demonstrated how AI can improve a video conference. AI recognizes when a person in the room is speaking and automatically reframes the camera on their face. AI can then identify the person, name and title and will eventually be able to import relevant social media data—such as a LinkedIn profile — to share with all other participants. (AI can also eliminate annoying background noise– that barking dog– or the user who is typing while on the call, and then mute their line).
AI is also a proactive participant in this meeting and when called upon, can call up relevant information that is pertinent to the conversation.
“How much highway can we improve with the current funding?”
AI brings up the highway in VR for all participants showing dollar per mile construction costs.
Facial recognition. Yes. New users come into the meeting. AI scans and provides relevant background information for the rest of the group.
AI Sense, a Silicon Valley startup, can access voice conversations and search by keyword or phrase using it Ambient Sense Intelligence tool. Look for a release in 2018.
“Did I really hear him say that contract was not awarded?”
Acculation, a data science software company, uses data-driven processes to make decisions about content for social media and elsewhere; monitoring and responding. Through an algorithm, it can even create content.
It is a future of cameras and microphones. A future of voice controlled information retrieval and sharing- a way to boldly go where no business has gone before.
