Adapt and Revise Your Leadership Toolkits

As a leader, the decisions you make today are more important than ever, as well as the impact and influence they will have on people’s lives. It is important that we revise our leadership toolkits to help influence our organizations’ intended outcomes. Learning is more important today than ever before. Today, the skills that you bring to the table are the only form of job security.

Over the past year, we have all had to adapt to new circumstances. We must all decide that the best way to continue this journey will be at our highest levels. Do not be afraid of problems and challenges; addressing these are some of the best ways to achieve purpose at the highest results possible. Below are some helpful tips.

  • Timeframe – I recognize I will not be here forever. Place a timeline on how long you intend to be in your role. A timeline will define where you are looking to achieve your benchmarks of success. This will help you act upon some of the most impactful decisions you will ever make in your role as a leader.
  • Evaluation and Action – Revise and implement relevant systems that provide you the capacity of where you wish to lead your organization.
  • Culture – Create a winning and positive culture. It is always helpful to remember that culture will beat strategy every day of the week.
  • Consistency – Consistency does not mean behaving the same way all the time. It means behaving the same way under similar circumstances. The gift of predictability is one of the best ways to inspire good performance in any team.

Leadership is not something you do to people, it is something you do with people. You do not inspire your team by showing them how amazing you are, you inspire them by showing them how amazing they are.

Commit to clarity and decisiveness. Once you and your team have made up your minds, do not hesitate to commit. It’s all hands on deck, ensuring that you have allocated the proper amount of time, research, and resources to achieve your goals.

If you research the qualities people are looking for in today’s leaders, you will see that included at the top of the list are courage, passion, and humility. We must make and then take the time to make our teams feel valued and relevant. In today’s world it is also so important to be able to empathize with those who have become lost or broken.

Most important in my toolkit is disconnecting from the outside and taking the time to restore the inside. The most important and successful decisions I have ever made have been because I was taught many years ago to make things right with myself. Sometimes it is 15 minutes, and sometimes it is overnight. The important piece here is that unless someone’s life is at stake or there is a significant amount of money on the line, every important decision deserves for you to be at your best.
